Roles and Responsibilities

The dental assistant's responsibilities include:

• Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures like suction, handing out instruments and arranging the dental set up.
• Preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
• Pouring impressions of patients' impressions for study casts (models of teeth)
• Office management tasks using a computer.
• Communicating with patients and suppliers (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies)
• Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)
