Summary of the Position

This non-supervisory position is responsible for conducting secondary research using online research tools and offline reports and/or publications and other available sources to facilitate sound strategic decision-making. This incumbent will conduct secondary market research regarding impressions of USP, method preferences for standards development, new product/service development, international market trends and opportunities, competitive analysis, SWOT analysis, and revenue/financial analysis to increase understanding of our customers and business environment. The incumbent will also utilize primary research reports as needed to support the findings arising out of secondary research.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conducts secondary market research (qualitative and quantitative) to support strategic, tactical, and operational initiatives as well as to inform planning and implementation of new and potential USP products and programs.

  • Stewards projects: develops research reports to meet business needs, consults with internal business partners, establishes and manages schedules for projects, monitors progress, to ensure results will provide meaningful and actionable insights.

  • Conducts secondary research on key domestic and international markets to support the development of business and marketing plans for those markets.

  • Identifies, researches, profiles, and monitors USP’s competitors and their product lines to provide context to decision making.

  • Monitors trends in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, biotech, dietary supplement, food, and other related industries to assess their implications for USP business lines.

  • In summary, build an in-depth understanding of the companies in the industry like the business model, product offerings, etc., and summarize the findings in an insightful manner using high-level business language.

  • Work with extended teams to deliver quality outputs.

  • Understands B2B dynamics within the industry and aligns with the organization’s business objectives.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in conducting secondary research with a focus on B2B research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good skills with the following programs:

  • MS Excel

  • MS PowerPoint

  • MS Word

  • MS Teams

  • Bulletin boards and focus group platforms

  • Experience using online, secondary research tools and databases like Factiva, Bloomberg, Cortellis, etc.

  • Solid business writing skills – evidence of succinct, distilled reports and attention to detail.

  • Good analytical skills.

  • Ability to present a lot of information in a simple and insightful manner.

  • Flexibility to support ad hoc research needs along with work-in-progress assignments.

  • Must be self-motivated and client service-oriented.

  • Strong communication skills: verbal, written, and interpersonal.

  • Good time and project management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks with adequate supervision.

  • Has the ability to multi-task.

  • Can handle change and ambiguity.

  • Thoroughness, attention to detail, and accuracy in work products required.

  • Pharmaceutical industry knowledge from a business perspective preferred but not required.

  • Experience working in a scientific organization preferred but not required.

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organization a plus.
