Roles and Responsibilities:

Plans, coordinates hospital transplant services, pursue organ donors, assists team in organ retrieval of patients undergoing organ or tissue transplantation

All time in contact with donors, patients & team members to ensure full fledge documentation which includes informed consent of potential organ donor and transplant receiver, accessible transplantation system and to treatment alternatives.

Clarity and maintaining of medical data of prospective organ donors & transplant receivers from medical & social records, physical examination & consultation with team members to perform preliminary physical assessment, screen prospective recipients & donors.

Scheduling & coordinating recipient and donor laboratory tests to determine histocompatibility of blood or tissue of recipient and donor.

Compares collected data to normal values, correlates - summarizes laboratory reports, X rays & other tests to assist physician to determine medical suitability of procedure, to identify potential complicating factors, and to evaluate recipient and donor compatibility.

Solicits medical & community groups for organ donors, assists medical team in retrieval of organs for transplantation while using medical instruments.

Coordinates in-hospital services and counsels recipient and donor to alleviate anxieties and assist recipient and donor throughout procedure.

Advises post-operative patients on therapies for managing health after transplant and serves as team member to monitor and assess progress of patient and offer advice and assistance to patient following transplant.
